One of the most memorable aspects of the Bond films are the multitudes of gadgets. They are always exceedingly clever and well thought out, an 007 always finds the opportune moment to use them. The gadgets were so effective, they had a huge impact on the genre of espionage so that many other books and films have adopted the entire gadget idea. These other works that found inspiration from Bond films include Mission Impossible, the Alex Rider series, and pretty much every other spy film or movie since. This is a list of the most successful and just plain awesome gadgets that James Bond has used.
The Cars:
Over the course of all the Bond films, there has been one gadget that has grown to tower above all others, and will always be present in Bond films to come. This is the Aston Martin. These cars are always fast, sexy, and chocked full of surprising spy features that Bond utilizes over the course of the film. The older cars were more elaborate, with ejection chairs and hidden machine guns, whereas the newer Aston Martin DBS relied more on it’s sleek speed and a few lifesaving gadgets, such as an incredible first aid kit and bulletproof features.
The Guns:
The James Bond films have made the Walther PPK household knowledge to any film buff, it is known as James Bond’s ever present firearm. He never goes anywhere without it. It’s sleek compact build makes it perfect for hiding in a suit, which is one of the reasons 007 finds it so effective. In Skyfall, the pistol was improved by adding a handprint scanner into the handle so only 007 could fire it.
The Exploding Pen:
The gadgets that have been listed so far are somewhat applicable and it is reasonable to expect something like them might actually exist, but the Bond films are also known for being slightly ridiculous. This gadget, the exploding pen, is one of the more iconic gadgets ever made. It was a pen that fired a projectile when activated. It is partly these types of gadgets that make these Bond films so enjoyable.
